Although some designs may or may not be ones that stand the test
of time, others may prove to be timeless.
All designs, however, need to be cared for in a way that will
preserve their appearance.
Here are some simple things to remember :
·
1.) All metals will tarnish over time, if not kept in an airtight container or bag. Tarnish strips, like those kept with silver flatware, can be stored with any design to help prevent tarnishing.
2.) Jewelry that has been designed with metal parts and precious gems and/or pearls, should be polished with a jeweler’s cloth.
3.) Always check a cleaner’s directions for any specifications or warnings, as some cleaners can alter or even ruin certain precious gems, especially
pearls.
4.) If a design is made up of all metal parts, then a polish cleaner for metals can be used. Please note if there are metal parts that have an antique or patina finish, you can remove this design finish if you soak or spray the entire design piece. In a case such as this, treat the patina and antique finishes as though they are pearls and only shine or treat the metal parts you wish to shine.
5.) Over time, any gemstone, pearl, glass bead, string, or colored design component can fade or change in color…if left in direct sunlight.
6.) Be sure to use leather oil once a season to condition any leather parts to keep the leather from cracking and breaking.
7.) Lotions, perfumes, oils, soaps and sprays can build up on any jewelry design. To prevent this, always put your jewelry on last and remove all jewelry before bathing or swimming. Chlorine is also something to be
avoided.
·
8.) Do not fret if something breaks, mishaps tend to happen…a strand catches on a knob or a design is knocked off a counter, regardless… most designs can be fixed by a reputable jewelry repair service. Just call for an
estimate.
9.) Always put your jewelry on over a soft surface. This will help you
prevent damage if the piece was to fall.
Jewelry is designed to enhance your own beauty, but it’s up to
us to keep its essence beautiful.
Take these tips and apply them as needed.
My wish is to help you find what speaks to you in life and in
art, while helping you preserve what you love.
Art, wearable or otherwise, is created to inspire you and those
who view each piece.

CJ Harlan & Harlan Circle Gifts supports artists by offering them a chance
to become a member of an Artist Collective that shares a vision to make a
difference in other’s lives. HC Artists can: further their visibility; consign
their work; and can be invited to teach their art form and methods
through The Harlan Circle's "Art That Makes A Difference" Program.
The “Art That Makes A Difference” Program was created by CJ to help people receive the therapy, support and guidance they need, by way of ART.
The program also helps new and experienced artists aspire, while it
acquires guidance funding gifts that will be awarded to those who need fee assistance. Gifts are made possible through CJ Harlan Design sales and the sales of other Harlan Circle Artists.
